The Feast Day of St. Brigid is on Monday 1st February. St. Brigid is the Secondary Patron Saint of Ireland and is the Patroness of our Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. The Church in Clogherinkoe is dedicated to St. Brigid.
St. Brigid is often called ‘Mary of Gael’. It’s believed that she was born in Faughart, near Drogheda, around 453AD, and died in 525AD. Her monastery at Kildare became one of the greatest centres of learning in Europe. St. Brigid is the Patron Saint of new born babies and midwives, People who work on boats or on the water, cattle and dairy workers, poets and travelers.
