The Parish Choir
The ministry of the parish choir is to bring the song of the assembled community to life and to assist the people so that their song may be prayer from the heart as well as the head.
Music is part of the symbolic language of worship. It is a symbol of unity in a worshipping community between the people and their God and also among people themselves. Music can evoke a personal response from us as individuals and can enhance our own relationship with God.
Liturgical music gives our community a sense of unity and this is very evident among our three church choirs in this parish.
We are always looking for individuals willing to share their talents and time as choir members. If you are interested please contact: Joan 086 809 2098
Tips for Choir
Good posture is essential for good singing: Stand tall, shoulders back, feet slightly apart.
The body is the frame that supports the voice – engage the whole body.
Vowels are to singing as colours are to an artist. Always make round vowel sounds.
Consonants must always be percussive and defined.
Always over emphasise the pronounciation of your words – Singing is exaggerated speech.
Music
We all have music which has powerfully connected us to the divine – it might be a mighty operatic aria, a poignant violin passage, a complex concerto or a modern pop song whose lyrics touch our hearts.
